Derek Chisora says only Daniel Dubois and Moses Itauma matter now at heavyweight

With Oleksandr Usyk vacating three of the four major heavyweight titles, the heavyweight division has suddenly become more open. Derek Chisora believes that despite the new opportunities, only two fighters have separated themselves from the rest of the pack.

Chisora said Moses Itauma and Daniel Dubois are the only heavyweights he sees causing problems for everyone else in the division now.

“There’s only one person in this generation right now who can cause a headache for everybody, and that’s Moses,” Chisora said to Secondsout. “And then I think Daniel has got rid of his demons. Them two. But I don’t see anybody else. I don’t see anybody else troubling those two guys right now.”

Chisora’s confidence in the pair extended beyond the division’s other top contenders. Asked about Fabio Wardley’s rematch with Dubois, he predicted another defeat for Wardley, this time ending even sooner than their first meeting.

“I don’t think. What is Fabio Wardley going to do? What’s different from the first fight?” Chisora said. “I think this fight, the rematch, will end earlier than before. I love Fabio, but I don’t see him troubling Daniel right now again. He has to change something in his game completely.”

The veteran was equally dismissive when Agit Kabayel’s name was brought up, saying he doesn’t believe the unbeaten contender defeats either Dubois or Itauma.

Chisora acknowledged that Itauma faces a significant step up against Filip Hrgovic, but still expects the 21-year-old to come through.

“No. It’s going to be a hard fight, but Moses is going to dig deeper, and he’s going to win it,” Chisora said.

When asked who wins if Dubois and Itauma fought today, Chisora admitted it was a difficult choice before ultimately siding with the unbeaten southpaw.

“I have to go with Moses,” Chisora said. “Southpaws are hard to beat. When you shape up, he’s already got a reach on you with his jab. By the time he lands the jab, it’s a quick one-two.”
