Friday night in the Dodgers minor leagues was highlighted by one former top pitching prospect and a current top arm in the system.
Player of the day
Jackson Ferris put together his third good start in a row, posting a season-high seven innings with eight strikeouts for Oklahoma City, allowing only one run, working around three walks and seven hits.
Ferris has allowed two runs with 20 strikeouts in 17 innings over his last three starts, lowering his season ERA from 7.15 to 6.00.
Triple-A Oklahoma City
A low-scoring affair got wild in the ninth and 10th, when singles by Hyeseong Kim and Ryan Fitzgerald brought home the tying and winning runs in the Comets’ victory over the El Paso Chihuahuas (Padres).
Jerming Rosario allowed two home runs with one out in the ninth inning, turning a one-run lead into a one-run deficit. Oklahoma City kept things alive with a run in the ninth, then Nick Robertson allowed the free runner to score in the top of the 10th, but nothing else.
James Tibbs had two singles, two walks, a stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Zach Ehrhard also singled, stole a base, and scored twice. Ryan Ward tripled in a run.
Rehabbing
Will Smith caught seven innings behind the plate and was hitless in three at-bats with a strikeout on Friday. Smith has been behind the plate three times in four days on his rehab assignment so far this week, catching five, seven, and seven innings.
Double-A Tulsa
Chris Newell hit a three-run home run in the Drillers’ two-run win over the Midland RockHounds (A’s).
Christian Zazueta struck out five and walked one in his five innings, allowing only one run on three hits. Zazueta in 10 starts in Double-A has a 3.48 ERA with 67 strikeouts against only seven walks in 44 innings.
Christian Ruebeck has been wild in relief this year with an 18.1-percent walk rate, and that included three walks to go with his three strikeouts on Friday. But it also came with two scoreless innings, giving him one total run allowed in 9 2/3 August innings, with nine walks but also 14 strikeouts.
High-A Great Lakes
Mairo Martinus singled home Jaron Elkins in the seventh inning, giving the Loons the winning margin over the Lansing Lugnuts (A’s). Emil Morales hit a two-run home run in the fourth inning for the other Great Lakes runs.
Cam Leiter struck out four in three innings, allowing only one unearned run. That’s two starts with no earned runs in High-A, with 11 strikeouts in 6 1/3 innings for the right-hander.
Class-A Ontario
The Tower Buzzers were held scoreless in a road loss to the Stockton Ports (A’s). Ontario had eight hits, all singled until 2026 13th-round draft pick Caleb Johnson doubled. Ontario loaded the bases with nobody out in the ninth but did not score.
Catcher Francisco Espinoza had two of the eight hits.
