Jaron “Boots” Ennis delivered one of the biggest wins of his career on Saturday night, but retired five-division world champion Terence Crawford was not ready to join the growing praise.
Ennis stopped previously unbeaten Xander Zayas in the seventh round at Barclays Center in Brooklyn to capture the WBA and WBO junior middleweight titles, dropping the Puerto Rican champion three times before the fight was stopped by Zayas’ corner.
Shortly after the bout, Crawford posted a brief but cryptic message on social media that many interpreted as a reaction to Ennis’ performance.

The timing of the post drew attention because Ennis had labeled Crawford “easy work” during fight week while discussing the former undisputed champion.
Asked about Crawford’s comments during his post-fight press conference, Ennis dismissed the retired star’s opinion.
“We ain’t worried about them retired fighters,” Boots Ennis said. “Leave Terence alone. Let him enjoy his family.” He added that his attention is now on becoming the undisputed champion at 154 pounds.”
Crawford and Ennis never shared the ring despite years of speculation about a welterweight showdown. With Crawford now retired, the fight was never made.
Ennis said after the victory that his immediate goal is to become the undisputed champion at 154 pounds, while Crawford’s brief social media post added another chapter to the rivalry that never materialized. Crawford’s reaction gave boxing fans something else to debate after the main event.
