Robert Garcia: Benavidez Would Beat Fury, AJ And Wilder

David Benavidez’s move toward heavyweight no longer sounds like fantasy talk after trainer Robert Garcia openly predicted wins over Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua, and Deontay Wilder while discussing Benavidez’s future following his dominant victory over Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez.

Robert said Benavidez already has the style and hand speed to trouble the biggest names in boxing if he eventually decides to move up.

“I think Benavidez beats all three of them,” Garcia said to Fino Boxing when Fury, Joshua, and Wilder were brought up as possible future opponents. “They’re slow compared to Benavidez. They won’t even have a chance to throw a punch. By the time Ben already landed 20 punches on them.”

Garcia admitted Fury would still present the toughest assignment because of his size, but he still backed Benavidez to break him down with volume punching.

“The most difficult one I think would have to be Fury because the weight is heavy. It’s difficult,” Garcia said. “But even then, if he has his hand over Benavidez, Benavidez is gonna throw those 20-punch combinations to the body, and that’s it. It’s over.”

Robert’s comments came after Benavidez stopped Ramirez in a performance that increased discussion about how far the unbeaten star can go after already winning titles at super middleweight and cruiserweight. Garcia said he still wants to see Benavidez spend more time at cruiserweight first before fully committing to heavyweight.

“I think he could fight at heavyweight,” Garcia said. “But I would say two years from now, a year and a half, three more fights at cruiserweight, and then go to heavyweight.”

Garcia also mentioned Andy Ruiz Jr., Richard Torrez Jr., Dmitry Bivol, and Artur Beterbiev as possible future opponents during the discussion about Benavidez’s future path.
