“We’ve activated the rematch,” Ofo said to ProBox TV. “Fabio’s excited to be in such a fight again. He knows the mistakes that he made and wants to get it back in blood.”
Ofo said doctors found no concussion or fractures after the fight.
“He came out of the ring, numerous doctors saw him backstage. He wasn’t concussed. There was nothing broken, no nose broken, no fractures. It was purely just the cosmetics. It was just blood, which his nose always goes,” said Ofo.
According to Ofo, Wardley has already resumed some training, although the cuts still need time to fully heal before he can safely compete again.
Ofo said the rematch does not have to take place immediately because the clause favors Wardley.
“There is a time limit, and it’s in favor of Fabio,” he said. “I’ve heard people say it’s going to happen within three months. It’s not going to happen within three months. It happens when Fabio is ready.”
Ofo said Wardley believes he can correct the mistakes from the first fight while acknowledging Dubois is a difficult opponent.
“I think where he got him so early, the mindset shifted a little bit,” he said. “He knows the mistakes that he made, and those are mistakes that he can correct. Daniel Dubois is a very tough fight, but this is the kind of fight Fabio asks for.”
He pointed to Wardley’s rematch victory over Fraser Clarke as evidence that his fighter responds well after setbacks.
“Look at when he fought Fraser Clarke the second time. He totally destroyed him. I think it’s going to be a devastating performance from Fabio when they meet again.”
The rematch clause has been exercised, but no date has been announced. Wardley controls the timing under the agreement.
