Two of the South of England’s most highly regarded heathland golf clubs, Blackmoor Golf Club and Hindhead Golf Club, have announced the launch of a new elite women’s amateur championship, The Heathland Vase, to be held on 7-8 August 2027.
The championship will be a 54-hole stroke play event, played across both venues, bringing together leading female amateur golfers from across England and beyond.
The event has been created in response to a recognised gap within the elite women’s amateur calendar and aims to provide a high-quality competitive opportunity during the summer holiday period, when many younger elite players are available to compete.
Open to women with a handicap of 7 or lower, the inaugural championship will be played over two days, with competitors completing 36 holes at Blackmoor on August 7, followed by 18 holes at Hindhead on August 8.
The organising committee intends to seek World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) status for the event and is working closely with both clubs and relevant golfing bodies to establish The Heathland Vase as a significant fixture within the amateur women’s game.
Alison West, Chair of the Joint Tournament Committee and Ladies’ Captain at Blackmoor Golf Club, said: “We are excited to launch The Heathland Vase and to create an event that showcases two outstanding heathland golf courses while providing a new competitive opportunity for elite female golfers. We hope this championship will become a regular and prestigious fixture within the women’s amateur calendar.”
Lorraine Tuffin, Ladies’ Vice-Captain of Hindhead Golf Club, added: “The collaboration between Hindhead and Blackmoor has created a unique opportunity to develop something special for women’s golf. Both clubs share a commitment to supporting the amateur game and we look forward to welcoming players from across the country in 2027.”
Competition entry for 2027 Heathland Vase Women’s Elite Open, which costs £100, will open in January 2027. In the meantime, golfers are invited to register their interest and receive event updates by visiting www.blackmoorgolf.co.uk.
