San Antonio Spurs superstar Victor Wembanyama will reportedly be revealed as the cover athlete for the upcoming NBA 2K27 video game, per ESPN’s Shams Charania.

Wembanyama is the first center to be on the cover of a 2K basketball game since Shaquille O’Neal was on the cover of the Legend Edition of 2K18.

Not only is it Wembanyama’s first video game cover of his career, but he is also the first Spurs player to appear on the cover since the game’s release in 1999.

Wembanyama has been in the NBA for three years, winning the Rookie of the Year Award in 2024 and the NBA’s Defensive Player of the Year Award in 2026.

The 7-4 center has taken the league by storm and, through 181 games, is averaging 23.4 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 3.5 blocks per game.

This year, the Spurs center averaged 25.0 points per game (13th best in the league) and 11.5 rebounds (4th best in the league).

Wembanyama dropped 50 points against the Washington Wizards in November 2024 and has eight other regular-season games with at least 40 points.

He dominated the boards against the Denver Nuggets in January 2025 and came down with 23 rebounds. Wembanyama has had four different games with at least 20 rebounds during the regular season.

The announcement comes a month after the Spurs lost to the New York Knicks in the NBA Finals. San Antonio lost in five games, often blowing late leads to New York.

While Wembanyama’s performance in the Finals was impressive, he drew criticism for how he handled the loss.

Despite that, Wembanyama is still among the biggest and most talented players in the game. He’s a prime selection for the honor, and should unsurprisingly be ranked as one of the top players in NBA 2K27 when the game releases in September.
