Tyson Fury’s August comeback opponent still remains undecided, but his manager, Spencer Brown, says Jarrell Miller and Andy Ruiz Jr. are now unlikely options as Team Fury looks for a stronger opponent ahead of the planned Anthony Joshua fight later this year.
Brown said Fury wanted Miller for an August fight in America, but no longer believes there is enough time to finalize it.
“Tyson will fight anybody, but he’s mentioned Jerell Miller. He’d love to fight Jerell Miller in America. What a huge fight in August, that sort of time before the Joshua fight. He wanted that, but I don’t think that’s going to happen now. I think it’s a virtual impossibility,” said Brown to Pro Boxing Fans.
“I don’t think Andy’s in camp at the moment. So, him to hurry and get into a camp and do whatever he’s got to do. I don’t think it’s a possibility.”
Brown said Team Fury wants somebody with a strong record and believes they are targeting a better opponent than the one Joshua faces on July 25, Kristian Prenga.
“We’d like an unbeaten or maybe a one-loss fighter. We want someone with a very good record. We’re looking at a better opponent than Anthony Joshua’s got,” said Brown.
Brown said that Fury’s team does not want anything to interfere with the planned Joshua fight.
“We obviously don’t want anything to happen to ruin the big event.”
While Fury’s team is throwing around names like Andy Ruiz Jr. and Jarrell Miller for an August date, Brown already admitted they do not want anything to happen that could ruin the planned Joshua fight later this year. Joshua also has his own summer booking against Kristian Prenga in July, making it clear that both sides are protecting the bigger event.
