Tyson Fury’s side says the long-awaited fight with Anthony Joshua may not happen immediately, with manager Spencer Brown revealing Fury could want another warm-up bout before facing Joshua. The heavyweight clash has been discussed for years, but Brown indicated more steps may still be needed before it becomes official.
Brown said Fury’s recent return after a long absence means another outing could come first before a fight with Joshua later this year. Fury defeated Arslanbek Makhmudov in his comeback bout after spending an extended spell out of the ring.
“We’ll probably want another fight before the AJ fight, a proper warm-up, and then we’re ready to go. We’re signed. We’re ready to rock and roll,” Brown said on Instagram.
Brown also said Fury’s broadcast ties could become part of the final deal, pointing to an existing relationship with Netflix. Fury has recently appeared on the platform through At Home with the Furys, while his comeback bout was also carried there.
“We’ve got an exclusive partnership with Netflix, and as you can see, Tyson is doing ‘At Home with the Furys.’ His last fight was done by Netflix, and I would think all his fights are being done by Netflix,” Brown said.
Brown said that he was unsure whether DAZN would be involved if Fury and Joshua move ahead.
“We’re just waiting for Anthony to sign and Eddie Hearn to sign. Will it be with DAZN. I haven’t got a clue or if DAZN will be a part of it. I haven’t got a clue. We’ll wait and see. We’re ready to go,” Brown said.
Joshua is scheduled to return on July 25 in Riyadh against Kristian Prenga. If both sides complete their plans, the long-delayed British heavyweight fight could still land later this year.
