Simon Jordan Says Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury Is About Money

Analyst Simon Jordan isn’t buying the hype for the Anthony Joshua vs. Tyson Fury fight, and honestly, it’s refreshing to hear someone say it out loud. He’s calling this what it is: a massive cash out.

“This is a land grab economically for two fighters that are past their best,” Jordan said to talkSport Boxing during the discussion. He added that the fight, while still likely to draw attention, sits closer to a nostalgia-driven event than a genuine test to establish the top heavyweight.

Simon’s view is harsh, but he’s essentially pointing out that the sell-by date for this being a peak athletic competition has passed. Calling it a money grab might sound cynical, but when you look at the landscape in April 2026, the numbers back up his skepticism.

With both men comfortably worth over $100 million, the motivation is clearly no longer about survival or even building a legacy

Simon’s phrase, “land grab,” is perfect. This is about two massive brands finally colliding because Netflix and Saudi investors put up numbers that made it impossible to say no.

Years of failed talks were followed by sudden movement once Saudi financing entered the picture, with both sides finally agreeing once the money reached a level that made delays irrelevant.

We’re essentially watching the heavyweight version of a “Legends” tour. It’s a fight for the fans who wanted this in 2021, being delivered in late 2026. Simon isn’t saying the fight won’t sell or that it won’t be a massive cultural moment.

Jordan’s point is simpler than that. It’s about two well-known names cashing in on a fight that should have happened years earlier, packaged as an event that people will still pay to see.

While Fury and AJ prepare for their November date, the top of the division is occupied by names like Usyk, Wardley, Itauma, Dubois, and the next wave of contenders who are fighting for belts that actually signify the best in the world.
