O’Shaquie Foster Eyes Roach-Zepeda Winner If Navarrete Fight Falls Through

O’Shaquie Foster Eyes Roach-Zepeda Winner If Navarrete Fight Falls Through

O’Shaquie Foster already has a backup plan if Emanuel Navarrete doesn’t agree to unify the super featherweight division.

The WBC super featherweight champion says he’ll move up to lightweight and target the winner of the August 1 fight between Lamont Roach Jr. and William Zepeda for the vacant WBC lightweight title if a unification bout with Emanuel Navarrete can’t be made. Foster says the ball is in Navarrete’s court.

“That’s most likely the move. If we can’t get Navarrete, then I’m looking real close at Lamont and Zepeda. They fighting August 1st for the WBC. I can get first dibs on that and be mandatory for that just off the rip if I want to move up. So I’m paying real close attention,” said O’Shaquie Foster on the Mr. Verzace Podcast.

Asked how he sees the Roach-Zepeda matchup unfolding, O’Shaquie believes it’s one of the toughest fights to call.

“I really don’t know. I think the volume of Zepeda is going to be a problem because I don’t think Lamont got that punch output,” said Foster. “But I think the timing of Lamont on some of his power shots is going to be a problem for Zepeda because sometimes when you’re overthrowing and throwing shots, you leave yourself vulnerable. I think it’s an interesting fight. I got it 50-50.”

Foster says either outcome works for him.

“Both of them guys I’ll make good work of for sure.”

Navarrete remains Foster’s preferred option, but he made it clear he won’t sit on the sidelines waiting. If a unification fight doesn’t happen, Foster says he’ll move to 135 pounds and pursue the biggest opportunities available.
