The historical attraction is easy to understand. Having beaten Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua twice each, Usyk can complete his collection of victories over the three heavyweight names that dominated discussion before his arrival in the division.

But the date belongs alongside the name. Defeating Wilder in 2027 would not carry the significance of beating him during his WBC championship reign. Completing that list gives promoters a neat career retrospective without necessarily adding much to Usyk’s strongest accomplishments.

Wilder brings recognition and a right hand that supplies the promotional clips. His defeats against Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang exposed the weakness in relying on one decisive punch. Parker denied him clean opportunities, while Zhang punished his hesitation.

Against Usyk, he would struggle to find room to set his feet and throw that right hand. The southpaw changes angles, draws reactions with feints and makes opponents adjust before they can punch. Wilder must process those changes before committing.

That is where his reduced output becomes especially costly. Waiting for a clear target allows Usyk to score and leave. Throwing without properly setting the attack risks missing, losing balance, and taking counters. Wilder needs to create openings with his jab and positioning rather than spend rounds hoping one arrives.

Age offers the strongest qualification to that prediction. Usyk would be 40 by the proposed March date. His movement depends on repeated small adjustments, and any decline in his legs might leave him within reach for longer.

Yet a slower Usyk would still require Wilder to recognize those opportunities and act immediately. Punching power cannot compensate for an opening noticed too late. The American’s chance depends as much on his willingness to throw as on the force behind the shot.

Taking the event to the United States offers a commercial explanation. Wilder supplies a familiar home fighter, while Usyk gets another opportunity to headline there. That familiarity may help attract attention, but converting it into ticket purchases requires convincing buyers that the contest remains competitive.

Lapin has discussed Zuffa as a potential partner, without confirming an agreement. Those talks do not establish who will finance the event, and an American venue does not rule out Saudi involvement. Boxing Insider

A broadcaster or promoter may pay for the names. Fans would still be buying the versions who enter the ring in 2027.
