Keyshawn Davis Targets KO In Albright Rematch Fans Question

Keyshawn Davis is treating this rematch with Nahir Albright like a clean slate, but the fight itself feels like unfinished business more than forward movement.

The Norfolk return against Nahir Albright on May 16 lands in an awkward spot. Keyshawn is coming off bigger talk at 147, calling for names like Devin Haney, yet he’s returning to a fighter he already faced three years ago. Keyshawn-Albright 2 is a fight nobody asked for.

There isn’t much glory in proving you can ace a test you already passed, even if the teacher threw out the first grade on a technicality.

Keyshawn’s 10-round majority decision win in 2023 was overturned to a no-contest after a positive test for cannabis, which is why this rematch exists at all. There’s also a personal angle. Albright beat Keyshawn’s brother, Kelvin Davis, last year. Without that, it’s hard to see this matchup being made.

“My name is ‘The Businessman.’ I can go in there and stop basically everybody, because if you’re not on my level, you’re getting stopped,” Keyshawn Davis said to InsideTheRing. “I’m not just going in there and trying to win. I’m going to stop you.”

Taking this fight suggests a massive difference between Keyshawn’s talk and his team’s actual appetite for risk. If he were truly ready for the killers at 147, he wouldn’t be looking backward to settle a score with Nahir Albright.

“So I’m healthy this time coming around. I’m not smoking cannabis the week of the fight,” said Keyshawn. “I’m not doing that in camp. I’m fully focused. You’re about to get a fully focused Keyshawn. Y’all going to see. I’m going to go in there and stop him. I’m going to dominate him like nobody else.”

In boxing, if you have to tell everyone how “focused” and “clean” you are to justify a matchup, you’re usually trying to sell a product that the fans didn’t order. Using a professional date to avenge Kelvin’s loss doesn’t help Keyshawn’s standing in the rankings.
