Ennis (36-0, 32 KOs) stopped Xander Zayas on Saturday night in Philadelphia to capture the WBO junior middleweight title and add it to the WBA belt he already held. The victory immediately established him as one of the division’s leading champions, and a clash with Fundora would give him the chance to move even closer to becoming the undisputed king at 154 pounds.

Fundora (24-1-1, 16 KOs) has held the WBC title since defeating Tim Tszyu in March 2024. The 6-foot-6 southpaw has since defended the belt against Chordale Booker and Tszyu in a rematch before stopping Keith Thurman earlier this month in Las Vegas to strengthen his position near the top of the division.

The matchup would present Ennis with a far different challenge than Zayas. Fundora’s extraordinary height, long reach, and relentless punch output have created problems for nearly every opponent he has faced, while Ennis is regarded as one of boxing’s most complete fighters because of his speed, power, timing, and ability to adapt during fights.

A victory over Fundora would give Ennis three of the four recognized world titles at junior middleweight and leave him within one belt of undisputed status. It would also add another elite name to a resume that has quickly grown since his move up from welterweight.

No official date or venue has been announced, but if negotiations are finalized, the bout would rank among the biggest fights of the year and could determine the clear No. 1 fighter in the junior middleweight division.
