“I don’t care about the fight at all. I’ve gone way past caring now because it should have happened a few years ago,” Allen told talkSPORT Boxing. “Just sick of talking about it, hearing about it. Like, just get in the ring. When they get in the ring, I’ll be excited.”

Allen admitted some enthusiasm might return once Joshua and Fury are actually in the ring, but years of discussion have worn him down. He believes the fight should have happened six or seven years ago.

Their recent form also affects how Allen views the matchup. Joshua was dropped twice in his last fight, while Fury failed to impress Allen in his latest appearance. He would rather watch Daniel Dubois fight Fabio Wardley again, calling that the better boxing contest.

Joshua-Fury once offered the chance to settle which man was Britain’s leading heavyweight. Allen no longer sees a 2026 meeting in those terms.

He still gives both fighters credit for their careers, particularly Joshua’s role in helping British boxing fill major arenas and stadiums. But Allen believes their era has passed.

“Their time’s kind of been and gone now,” Allen said.

Allen is more interested in heavyweights such as Moses Itauma, Dubois, Wardley and Agit Kabayel, fighters pursuing the biggest fights in the division while Joshua and Fury finally move toward a matchup fans wanted years earlier.

That is the difficulty Joshua-Fury faces in 2026. The names remain enormous, and the fight will attract attention, but years of delays have stripped away much of its original sporting significance. Fans who once wanted the matchup to determine Britain’s best heavyweight would now be watching two former champions finally settle an argument left over from another stage of their careers.
