Gareth A. Davies doubts Tyson Fury has enough left to beat the heavyweight division’s young guns

As Tyson Fury prepares for what is expected to be one of the final chapters of his boxing career, veteran journalist Gareth A. Davies believes the former heavyweight champion no longer has enough left to take on the division’s emerging stars.

Fury is scheduled to return against veteran Mariusz Wach on July 24 in Pattaya, Thailand, before an anticipated showdown with Anthony Joshua later this year. While discussing Fury’s future, Davies suggested the 36-year-old should avoid the sport’s next generation of contenders.

“He’s coming up to probably his last couple of fights now in his career and being honest about the fact that he probably hasn’t got enough left to fight a Moses Itauma or some of the young guns coming through the division. Maybe that even includes Daniel Dubois,” said Gareth A. Davies on IFL TV.

Rather than chasing dangerous young contenders, Davies believes Fury’s focus has shifted toward closing out his career with the biggest available events. He noted that the former two-time heavyweight champion appears settled in Thailand, where he has spent months training and has developed a strong connection with the local community.

Davies described the Wach bout as a tune-up and said Fury is already looking ahead to a showdown with Anthony Joshua later this year.

His comments come as the heavyweight division enters a new era following Oleksandr Usyk’s decision to vacate his world titles. Meanwhile, 21-year-old Moses Itauma faces his toughest test against Filip Hrgovic on August 29, with a victory expected to move the unbeaten prospect within touching distance of a world title opportunity.
