Edgar Berlanga believes Dana White has discovered something that many boxing promoters have struggled to duplicate. The hard-hitting super middleweight says the UFC boss understands how to build stars in a way that separates him from everyone else, but he also knows publicity alone will not satisfy him if he never captures a world title.

Explaining why he signed with Zuffa Boxing, Berlanga praised White’s experience building the UFC into a global brand.
“Dana just separates himself a little bit. He’s coming from the UFC background, and he knows how to brand. He knows a lot about branding. He knows about building fighters and superstars. He has a cheat code to it. He understands it. Zuffa Boxing is looking for a superstar to really represent the platform, and you’re looking at one right here. I just got to go out there July 26 and prove him that he’s doing everything for me,” said Berlanga to Fight Hub TV.
White has already given Berlanga a major promotional push since signing him, putting him in front of mainstream media outlets as one of the early faces of Zuffa Boxing. That exposure may expand his audience, but Berlanga still has to defeat the division’s leading contenders if he wants to become one of the sport’s biggest names.
Berlanga admitted winning a world title remains his biggest objective despite the lucrative deal he has already secured.
“Getting the titles now is the icing on the cake. I’m locked in, and I’m different now. I really want to be a champ. My bros already did it. I cannot see myself retiring and leaving the sport without a championship. That’s like retiring without an NBA championship ring. I’ve been doing it for 23 years. For me to retire without a title is going to be crazy,” said Berlanga.
White can create opportunities, but Berlanga still has to capitalize on them. Picking up wins over the division’s best remains the missing piece if he wants to become the superstar he believes Zuffa Boxing can build.
