Eddie Hearn Targets Jaime Munguia For Diego Pacheco

Diego Pacheco’s next fight may be much bigger than another regional title defense.

Moments after Pacheco stopped Immanuwel Aleem in the 11th round on Saturday night at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California, promoter Eddie Hearn made it clear he wants the unbeaten super middleweight contender to challenge WBA champion Jaime Munguia in November.

Rather than discussing another stay-busy fight, Hearn immediately shifted the conversation toward a world title opportunity in front of Pacheco’s hometown fans.

“Is there a better fight than Diego Pacheco against Jaime Munguia for the world super middleweight title?” Hearn said to DAZN Boxing after the fight. “He made the smart decision. We will be back around November time, and we will be back here. We want to be back in this arena and against another big name.”

Pacheco (26-0, 19 KOs) looked sharp in his first fight with veteran trainer Buddy McGirt, controlling Aleem behind a disciplined jab before forcing the referee to stop the contest in the 11th round. The victory strengthened his standing at 168 pounds and gave Matchroom another opportunity to push him into the title picture.

Hearn also revealed the longer-term plan if a Munguia fight can be finalized.

“Whether it’s for the world championship in November or in the spring of 2027, you will see Diego fight for the world championship. If we can get Jaime Munguia, we’ll beat him, then we’ll face Canelo Alvarez as well.”

A matchup between Pacheco and Munguia would match one of the division’s fastest-rising contenders against an established champion while giving Pacheco the biggest opportunity of his career. If Hearn succeeds in making the fight for November in Carson, a victory would position the 25-year-old Los Angeles native for an even bigger showdown with Canelo Alvarez.
