Asked about Fury taking another fight before meeting Joshua, Hearn made it clear he does not view the assignment as a dangerous one.

“I’m not crazy about him having another fight. I don’t I’m not screaming and shouting about it,” said Hearn at tonight’s Josh Padley vs. Aqib Fiz fight.

“If that’s what he feels he needs, he’s fighting a guy that he’ll beat.

“I don’t think it’s a horrendous opponent, but by the way, why would you fight anyone of any threat?

“He’s just done 12 rounds with Makhmudov. It didn’t look fantastic, but he’d been out of the ring for a long time.

“I think it’s, you know, if that’s what he feels he needs, he’s fighting a guy that he’ll beat.

“I have no fear at all with this opponent. He’ll be absolutely fine.”

Fury returned to the ring in April after more than a year away from boxing, defeating Arslanbek Makhmudov over twelve rounds. Another victory would keep him on course for a long-discussed clash with Joshua.

Hearn also indicated that he knows the identity of Fury’s next opponent, though he stopped short of revealing the name.

“I know who he’s fighting. I’m not going to say because it’s not my opponent,” said Hearn.

The Matchroom promoter’s view was clear: Fury’s next outing is designed to keep him active, and he expects the former heavyweight champion to come through it without serious trouble.
