Ahead of his rematch against Nahir Albright this Saturday on May 16 in Norfolk, Virginia, Keyshawn questioned Haney’s inactivity and said the bigger fights tied to his name still have not materialized.
“Yeah, honestly, yes, I do want to fight Devin Haney for sure. Like, for sure,” said Keyshawn to Sean Zittel when asked about the fight he wants beyond Albright.
Keyshawn then turned up the pressure on Haney, saying he sees no reason for the former two-division champion to continue sitting out while other rumored fights remain unresolved.
“For sure. He has nothing. Not that I know of. He has nothing coming up. He been sitting for a little while now,” said Keyshawn about Haney. “Tell Devin Haney, stop playing. Stop being so scary, bro. Fight me, bro. Like, I want to fight you.”
Haney has recently been linked to several possible directions, including a rematch with Ryan Garcia and reported interest in joining the rumored Zuffa Boxing project. Keyshawn questioned whether those plans are actually close to becoming reality.
“If he was getting these fights, then we would have been heard about it. They would have been promoting them,” said Keyshawn. “So why not fight an up-and-coming star that’s going to be a big fight?”
Keyshawn also argued that a fight between the two would make business sense because of his growing profile and fan base.
“Somebody that’s also going to help you put asses in those seats so we can get paid off the gate as well and off the network,” he said. “Why not fight me?”
The 26-year-old Keyshawn has repeatedly called for fights against Haney, Garcia, and other top names at 140 and 147. He admitted elsewhere in the interview that he originally wanted a fight against Oscar Duarte instead of the Albright rematch, but said Top Rank pushed for the rematch because “they love the story.”
