Bob Arum Says Teofimo Lopez vs. Rolly Romero Isn’t Close To Happening

Promoter Bob Arum says a fight between Teofimo Lopez and Rolando “Rolly” Romero remains only a possibility for the future, adding that neither side has reached the stage where serious negotiations can begin.

“I think that would be a good fight, Teofimo-Romero,” Arum told Fight Hub TV on X. “But again, they’ll come to us when they’re ready for the fight to really happen, and that hasn’t happened yet.”

Teofimo remains one of Top Rank’s biggest names, but his next opponent has not been finalized. Romero has also been linked to several possible matchups, leaving both fighters searching for the right opportunity before any serious negotiations can begin.

Arum suggested Teofimo’s unpredictable nature has made it difficult to evaluate future plans.

“Teofimo is a strange sort of guy. I like him very much. I like the father, but it’s hard for me to seriously comment on somebody who’s strange.”

The comments come as speculation has continued about Teofimo facing Rolly in a high-profile welterweight matchup. While Arum endorsed the fight as an attractive option, he indicated there are currently no meaningful discussions underway. The matchup remains firmly on the back burner.

Teofimo has spent much of the past year weighing his options after his run at junior welterweight, while WBA welterweight champion Romero has remained in the mix for major fights at 147 pounds. A meeting between the two would match two outspoken former world champions, but Arum’s remarks suggest fans should not expect an announcement anytime soon.
