Brewers’ David Hamilton leaves early with hamstring injury after sparking comeback win vs. Cardinals

Milwaukee third baseman David Hamilton sparked the Brewers’ comeback late on Monday night in St. Louis.

He just didn’t get to stick around to finish the game.

Hamilton, after hitting a two-RBI double to open the seventh inning and put the Brewers on the board finally at Busch Stadium, was suddenly pulled from the game after reaching second successfully. He pulled up a bit as he reached second and didn’t push anything in the moment, as he had made it to second with plenty of time to spare after hitting a deep shot to the outfield wall to score both Garrett Mitchell and Sal Frelick.

But Hamilton was replaced by Joey Ortiz on the bag, and he left the game for good. Hamilton, the Brewers later announced, had tweaked his left hamstring while running the bases. Further specifics of the injury, or how long he might be sidelined, are not yet known.

But thankfully for the Brewers, Hamilton’s shot gave them the boost they needed to pull off the comeback win. Brice Turang hit a two-RBI single of his own next to put them out in front for the first time all night, and eventually give them the 4-3 win.

Hamilton entered the night with a .234 batting average with three home runs. He’s now up to 15 RBIs this season, his first with the Brewers after getting his start in the league with the Boston Red Sox. The 28-year-old was dealt to Milwaukee in a six-player deal earlier this offseason.

The Brewers’ win pushed them to 55-33 on the season, and further solidified their lead in the NL Central race. While Hamilton’s injury didn’t appear too serious, it’s hard to imagine the Brewers will risk anything and try to get him back quickly considering both their lead in the division and the All-Star break right around the corner.
