Boots Ennis seen as stylistic threat to Sebastian Fundora, says Stephen Edwards

Edwards said Fundora’s size and reach create problems across the division, but identified Ennis as a rare exception due to his ability to close distance quickly and operate effectively inside.

“I think Boots would clip Fundora,” Edwards said to boxing analyst Brian Custer’s channel. “He’s athletic enough to leap in with big shots, he throws really good looping punches, and he’s strong on the inside.”

He also highlighted Ennis’ conditioning, noting that sustained pressure could become a factor over time.

“Boots has superior stamina. He doesn’t get tired when he fights,” Edwards said.

Although Fundora has built momentum with recent performances, Edwards pointed to defensive habits that could give opponents opportunities.

“For as good as Fundora is, he doesn’t move his head much. You can hit him. He’s kind of a static target,” he said.

Ennis, who recently moved up to 154 pounds, has previously faced larger opponents, something Edwards believes works in his favor rather than against him.

Fundora’s 80-inch reach creates a literal “no man’s land” that fighters have to sprint through just to touch him. If Ennis gets tagged coming in, as he has in his last few fights, the damage at 154 is going to feel much different than it did at 147.

“I’ve seen Boots box bigger guys. He actually likes it because they’re a big target for him,” Edwards said.

While Ennis’ athleticism is elite, his defensive lapses are spot on, especially considering his recent outing against David Avanesyan, where he swallowed some shots he shouldn’t have.

Breadman Edwards thinks Ennis thrives against bigger guys, but there’s a difference between a “big” 154-pounder and a guy who looks like a small forward. If Ennis can’t find a way to make Fundora respect his power early, he’ll be forced to take 3-4 shots just to land one of those looping hooks Edwards mentioned.

Over 12 rounds, that’s a losing math equation for most humans. Fundora has shown a massive chin and an incredible engine, so Ennis wouldn’t just be fighting a giant; he’d be fighting a giant who doesn’t stop throwing.
