“We want Boots Ennis, Fundora, and Vergil Ortiz,” said Bill Haney to Cigar Talk.
The comments come as Devin Haney continues to weigh his options following his move to the welterweight division. Much of the recent discussion surrounding Haney has centered on possible fights against Shakur Stevenson, Ryan Garcia, Conor Benn, and Keyshawn Davis.
Bill, however, pointed to a different group of names when discussing Devin’s long-term plans.
“We want the biggest fights,” Haney said while listing Ennis, Fundora, and Ortiz among the opponents he would welcome.
All three fighters are currently campaigning at junior middleweight, with Ennis recently moving up after his reign at welterweight. Fundora holds world titles at 154 pounds, while Ortiz remains one of the division’s leading contenders.
Whether any of those fights can realistically be made remains to be seen, but Bill’s comments offered a glimpse into the level of opposition the Haney camp says it is targeting moving forward.
For now, Devin’s next fight has yet to be officially announced, but Bill’s latest remarks are certain to generate discussion among fans, given the reputations of Ennis, Fundora, and Ortiz as three of the most dangerous fighters in the sport.
