Bakhodir Jalolov Gets Another Soft Touch At 32 Against Solomon Dacres

Bakhodir Jalolov has spent eight years as a professional without facing a serious heavyweight. His October 17 meeting with Sol Dacres continues that pattern rather than ending it. An Olympic gold medalist of his pedigree should have been hunting top five contenders right out of the gate, yet he remains content taking fights meant for British title-level novices.

British promotional outlets may present Sol Dacres as a major step up, but he is nothing of the sort. Dacres is strictly British level, carries little power with only three knockouts and owns no victories over notable heavyweights. David Adeleye wiped him out in 80 seconds in December 2024. A ten-round decision over Vladyslav Sirenko does not suddenly turn a domestic fighter into a dangerous opponent.

Jalolov (17-0, 15 KOs) will face Dacres (10-1, 3 KOs) on the October 17 Daniel Dubois vs. Fabio Wardley II card at London’s O2 Arena, Dan Rafael reported on X.

Vasiliy Lomachenko fought for a world title in his second outing, and previous Olympic super heavyweight champions treated entry into the pro ranks as an immediate takeover. Anthony Joshua demolished Charles Martin for the IBF belt and stopped Dominic Breazeale by his seventeenth professional appearance. Jalolov possesses superior amateur credentials, yet he has treated the professional ranks like an eight-year paid sparring tour.

The matchup asks if Jalolov can produce an entertaining showing against a cautious, feather-fisted heavyweight. He still fights like an amateur tournament entrant, working behind a stiff jab and straight left before retreating into open space. That approach collected Olympic medals, but it does not make compelling television.

Jalolov displayed the same flaw against Agron Smakici in May. Rather than pin an inferior opponent to the ropes and unload, the Uzbek southpaw retreated to long range. Smakici quit on his stool after seven rounds, but Jalolov did nothing to generate enthusiasm.

Dacres will hide behind a high guard and make Jalolov work for his openings. Adeleye attacked Dacres immediately and blew him away. If Jalolov spends ten rounds potshotting from distance against an opponent who cannot hurt him, the comparison will look terrible.

Years spent drifting between pro bouts and the Uzbek amateur system cost Jalolov crucial development time. Joe Joyce, Zhilei Zhang and Filip Hrgovic left the amateur tournaments behind to pursue real professional tests. Moses Itauma offers an even harsher contrast, generating massive commercial interest in his early twenties by seeking out explosive finishes. Jalolov is 32 and stuck taking soft touches on undercards.

The Dubois and Wardley bill gives Jalolov a massive platform, but promoters have little use for a safety-first heavyweight with zero appetite for danger. Blowing out a harmless domestic gatekeeper is the bare minimum. Jalolov has to prove he wants to be a real professional fighter.
