Bozy Ennis Says Andy Cruz Hasn’t Decided On 130 Move

Andy Cruz’s future weight class remains undecided despite recent comments suggesting the Olympic gold medalist plans to campaign at super featherweight. Trainer Bozy Ennis revealed that no final decision has been made, indicating Team Cruz will wait until after Saturday’s fight against Abraham Montoya before determining whether the former amateur star stays at lightweight or drops to 130 pounds.

Cruz (6-1, 3 KOs) has been linked with a move down in weight following his disputed loss to Raymond Muratalla in January. During Thursday’s final press conference, Cruz indicated he intends to compete at super featherweight after facing Montoya, but Bozy said those plans have yet to be finalized.

“I heard him say it, but I don’t like, why the purpose for the [move]. You heard what he said on the stage. He wasn’t really sure about that,” Bozy Ennis told Fight Hub TV about Andy Cruz. “Not official yet. Not yet. After we talk to certain people, I guess we get together and find out where we’re going to go.”

Bozy also dismissed the idea that Cruz’s late opponent change altered the preparation for Saturday’s fight. He said the team always trains for different styles because changes are common in boxing, leaving Cruz ready regardless of who is standing across the ring.

“As long as you staying in shape and working out like he’s been supposed to, a lot of stuff changes,” Bozy said. “That’s why when we spar guys, we spar southpaws, we spar orthodox because you never know when it’s going to change.”

A victory over Montoya would strengthen Cruz’s position no matter which division he ultimately chooses. If Team Cruz decides to remain at lightweight, he can resume his pursuit of another world title opportunity. If the move to 130 is approved, the Cuban technician would enter one of boxing’s deepest divisions with an amateur pedigree and skill set capable of making an immediate impact.
