Yoenli Hernandez Stops Terrell Gausha in Four, Claims NABO Title in Las Vegas

Yoenli Hernandez (10-0, 9 KOs) stopped Terrell Gausha (24-6-1, 12 KOs) in the fourth round to win the NABO middleweight title on the undercard at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Hernandez took control early, walking Gausha down and landing clean combinations to the head and body, forcing him onto the back foot from the start.

Hernandez won the first three rounds with higher output and sharper shots, getting to Gausha first and forcing him to react. The end came in the fourth when Hernandez let his hands go in close, landing repeated clean shots that left Gausha offering little back, prompting the referee to step in.

It marks the first stoppage loss of Gausha’s long career and a clear step forward for Hernandez, who delivered a dominant performance on a major stage and strengthened his position among the emerging names at 160 pounds.

Yoenli, 28, shattered a narrative. Entering the ring against Terrell Gausha, the question wasn’t about Hernandez’s talent, but his temperament against a seasoned professional who had survived 12 rounds with the likes of Tim Tszyu, Erislandy Lara, and Carlos Adames. In 30 professional bouts, Gausha had never been stopped. Hernandez needed only four rounds to change that.

The most striking aspect of the performance was the composure Hernandez showed while applying such high-octane pressure. He didn’t rush the finish. Instead, he systematically dismantled Gausha’s defensive shell with a varied attack. By targeting the body early, he forced Gausha to lower his guard, which opened the lanes for the crisp headshots that eventually forced the referee’s intervention.

For the middleweight division, this is a loud arrival. Hernandez has been the WBA’s top-ranked contender for months, but a win over a name like Gausha, and in that fashion, elevates him from a “protected prospect” to a legitimate threat to the champions at 160 pounds. If Erislandy Lara or Carlos Adames were watching, they saw a younger, faster, and incredibly accurate puncher who is no longer content waiting in the wings.
