PBC announced Thursday that Yoenli Hernandez will face Argentina’s Francisco Daniel Veron in a 10-round middleweight co-main event on August 22 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The bout joins the pay-per-view card headlined by WBA welterweight champion Rolando “Rolly” Romero against Teofimo Lopez.
Yoenli (10-0, 9 KOs) enters the contest ranked No. 1 by the WBA and WBO, along with No. 2 by the WBC. The Cuban standout strengthened his standing in March by stopping former U.S. Olympian Terrell Gausha in four rounds. He captured a gold medal at the 2021 AIBA World Boxing Championships and has rapidly climbed the professional rankings since turning pro in 2022.
“I’m preparing very hard for this fight, because I know that I have an extremely tough opponent in front of me,” Yoenli said in Thursday’s announcement. “I have to continue to train that hard fight after fight and prove to everyone what I’m capable of.”
Veron (17-1-1, 10 KOs) has won three straight against Roiman Villa, Vladimir Hernandez and Raul Garcia. He also fought Jahi Tucker to a draw, while his only defeat came by a close decision against Brandon Adams in 2024.
“This is one of the toughest fights of my career, but we’re well prepared for anything he bring,” Veron said. “I’m here to face the best, and I’m not ducking anyone.”
Hernandez has moved within reach of a world title opportunity. A convincing win over Veron would strengthen his case for a championship fight before the end of the year, while an upset would force the sanctioning bodies to take another look at the middleweight rankings.
