MLB.com | Bryan Hoch: Now in his third stint in the Major Leagues this season, Spencer Jones has begun to show some consistency at the plate, earning the praise of his teammates and coaches in the process. Cody Bellinger, who recently returned from the IL, called him “a freak athlete [and] a great defender” who has finally started “controlling his at-bats really well,” while manager Aaron Boone praised his ability to “to make adjustments to become a more well-rounded hitter.” That high praise — plus his strong performance of late — bodes well for the Yankees, who need to continue to rely on him while Aaron Judge remains on the injured list.

Sports | Bob Klapisch: The story of Jones as a prospect is well-known — a player with prodigious power potential and a prodigious ability to swing and miss — and indeed, his first two stints in The Show fit that description to such a degree that an anonymous scout called him “Joey Gallo 2.0” and believed that it would be wise for the Yankees to trade him before he lost any more value. Over the last few weeks, though, his ability to make adjustments has surprised even this anonymous scout, and while there is still a pretty big hole in his swing — high velocity up in the zone — there’s plenty of reason for optimism.
FanGraphs | Jay Jaffe: As part of his annual series in which he checks in on players’ Hall of Fame chances, Jay Jaffe dove into the list of players who, through either injury or underperformance, saw their Cooperstown chances take a hit this season. A pair of Yankees outfielders made this list: Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton. While Judge’s injury likely doesn’t derail his candidacy too much — after all, ZiPS still gives him a 28 percent chance of reaching 600 home runs, apparently — Stanton’s series of injuries may unfortunately end his time in the Bronx, and, thus, his best shot at hitting 500 home runs.
MLB Trade Rumors | Steve Adams: In case you missed it, the Yankees selected the contract of Justin Topa and recalled him from Triple-A Scranton yesterday, sending Brendan Beck back down. The veteran reliever has struggled this season, and really hasn’t been a truly reliable arm since 2023, but he can generate ground balls. With the Yankees in need of some bullpen depth, it’s worth knocking on every door, and by promoting him now, he will be eligible for the postseason roster.
