New York Daily News | Gary Phillips: Top prospect George Lombard Jr. has just two MLB games under his belt, but he’s looked like he belongs at this level. The new shortstop credits the major-league experience of his father and the general upbringing that has now produced two first round MLB picks, the other his brother Jacob. The other sons-of-MLBers in the Yankee clubhouse, Cody Bellinger (who Lombard met while his father coached with the Dodgers from 2016-20), Ryan Weathers, and Aaron Boone can all empathize with the value add of genetics, and now all Lombard Jr. has to do is keep going.
New York Post | Zack Braziller: Veteran lefthander Carlos Rodón will eventually return to the Yankees’ rotation, forcing the club to keep one of Ryan Weathers or Will Warren in the starting five, and sending the other to the bullpen. Although I think Weathers’ stuff, especially his excellent breaking balls, would play up more in relief, the performance on the field will dictate that decision. Warren simply hasn’t been as good as Weathers over the last six weeks or so, with Will having that one standout performance against the Cubs and not much else to show for it. Weathers, on the other hand, has allowed a single run in his last 20.1 innings.
FanGraphs | Michael Baumann: There’s a lot of things you can say about the state of the Yankee roster, but once again they made one of the very best relief pitchers in baseball appear out of nowhere. Lefty Brett Headrick has become Aaron Boone’s security blanket, deployed against hitters of both handedness with one of the best fastballs and sliders in the game — not quite Mason Miller-level stuff, but not far off. Headrick is in the midst of one of ten or so most dominant relief seasons in franchise history, and that is saying something with this org’s history.

Giancarlo Stanton and the aforementioned Rodón are facing off against each other in simulated ABs, Aaron Judge was re-imaged and can begin light workouts, and Clarke Schmidt is cleared to continue rehabbing after a brief scare earlier this week. There’s some 15-17 wins sitting on the IL right now, and if one or two of those returns can be ahead of schedule, that may be enough to start closing some ground in the division race.
