After winning Game 1, the Chicago White Sox can finish off the Houston Astros in the best-of-three American League wild card series on Wednesday, Sept. 30 at Daikin Park.
Chicago’s 6-3 victory in the opener was a slog with both teams opting to use an opener, though rookie White Sox southpaw Hagen Smith went three innings to start things off. Houston used eight pitchers in the Game 1 loss after sneaking into the playoffs with an 81-81 record, the worst mark for a postseason team in MLB history.
Sean Burke (11-8, 3.34 ERA) will start Game 2 for the White Sox, while right-hander Hunter Brown (6-4, 3.19 ERA) takes the mound trying to save the Astros’ season.
The winner of the series advances to face the Cleveland Guardians in the AL Division Series, beginning Saturday, Oct. 3.
