A new hitter means a new batting order. Sure, the change in the lineup created by the addition of Luis Arraez is far less shocking than the changes it created for the defense. But there’s still plenty to discuss. Arraez batted cleanup last night. He’s far from the prototypical cleanup hitter, but baseball has been moving away from that prototype— and last night’s results, with Arraez knocking in an RBI in his first Phillies at-bat, are a fine proof of concept. But there’s an argument to be made for the old ways, too, with a contact specialist like Arraez batting earlier; the Giants had him batting leadoff.
