THE MANCHESTER UNITED fan who has vowed not to cut his hair until the team win five straight games has taken up a bold new look.

Frank Ilett, 29, took up the challenge not to get a trim until the Red Devils hit the milestone in October of last year.

A change of manager and months of drama later, there is no end in sight for the viral personality.

But now he has taken the surprising step of making his barnet look even more unusual by dying it red in honour of reaching day 365 of the challenge.

Ilett, who posts under the pun name ‘The United Strand,’ uploaded a video of him applying the dye in the shower to his X account on the big day, October 5th.

Fans following the account came to the comments to show their support for the milestone, even if the result was not quite as bright as the cult figure was expecting.

One such fan was shocked by the wet look of the creator’s hair, which Ilett normally brushes out into a giant afro.

They said: “Man your hair actually looks good when it’s slicked back haha. Definitely a bit of gel could make this challenge a lot easier for you.”

Another fan commented on the anniversary, joking: “Will be a few more years yet mate”

A third fan called him a “Class act” after he explained why he was using temporary dye over a permanent product.

At the end of the challenge, Ilett intends to donate his accumulated hair to the Little Princess Trust, a charity set up to help young people who have lost their hair due to illness.

The superfan has also set up a fundraising page for the charity where he encourages his fans to donate.

Despite his light-hearted challenge and its noble goals, Ilett has found himself the subject of violent abuse in recent weeks.

He was in attendance at United’s victory over Chelsea last month when a furious fan grabbed him by the hair and began violently pulling it.

But Ilett took it in stride, saying “My intention with this challenge was never to highlight Man United’s flaws.

“It was always and always will be to spread humour and positivity to United fans in a difficult time.”

United’s win over Sunderland means the creator is off the mark on a new run, making their game against Spurs on November 8th the earliest that he could make a trip to the barbers.
