There were many conflicting reports about what the Minnesota Vikings planned to do at the quarterback position.
However, the Vikings quieted those a few weeks ago, with multiple higher-ups in the organization stating that J.J. McCarthy is the guy and will have every chance to prove he’s the franchise quarterback moving forward.
Despite that, there have been trade proposals left and right for the Vikings to land another quarterback. That happened again on Tuesday, when the team was suggested to trade for Kirk Cousins of the Atlanta Falcons.
“I understand that they’re taking a risk [betting on McCarthy]. They really took the risk when they drafted him. And now, they’re going to try to give it some time here to see where he is. But this is a little bit deceptive. Because they can’t really trade for Kirk Cousins until after June 1st because the salary cap hit to Atlanta would be too great. But after June 1, it’s easy,” Eric Mangini said on “First Things First” on April 15, per Josh Buckhalter of Heavy.
Cousins is believed to be available if a team is willing to pay some of his contract, but it remains uncertain why any team would do that.

Already 36 years old and turning 37 before the season starts, rolling with McCarthy seems like the better plan.
