FORMER Manchester United and Tottenham flop Sergio Reguilon is in surprise talks to link up with Lionel Messi at Inter Miami.

The Spanish defender is a free agent at 28 years old after being released by Spurs this summer.

Reguilon cost £32million when the Londoners signed him from Real Madrid in 2020.

But he struggled to impress in 73 games and was loaned out to Atletico Madrid, Man United and Brentford.

Reguilon’s time with the Red Devils was even less impressive as his loan was terminated midway through the campaign after just 12 games.

And after winning the Europa League with Spurs against former side United, the six-time Spain international remains without a club.

However, Reguilon could soon return to the beautiful game with MLS side Inter Miami.

Reports claim that David Beckham’s franchise are in the hunt for a new left-back to challenge veteran Jordi Alba.

The club also boasts fellow ex-Barcelona stars Messi, Sergio Busquets and Luis Suarez in its ranks.

And the addition of Reguilon would go down well with Miami’s strong Latin fanbase.

It now remains to be seen if a deal can be struck after Inter opened talks with the player.

Reguilon is also thought to have interest in Saudi Arabia.

While there are clubs in Europe keeping tabs on the situation too.

Reguilon previously opened up on his final few seasons at Tottenham under former boss Ange Postecoglou, admitting he was surprised to have been axed by the now-Nottingham Forest chief.

He said: “During pre-season I was very happy and he (Postecoglou) was happy with me, also the staff.

“I was playing like a normal player, all the games.

“The week before, I went to see him. ‘You want me at the club?’ ‘Yes, I have to do a list and you are in my squad’. It was strange.

“The next day I was out of the training and I didn’t know what happened.”
