The 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles will feature flag football, providing an exciting opportunity for NFL players to potentially participate.
Team USA already has a flag football team, led by Darrell Doucette, the quarterback.
However, with players like Patrick Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, and many others who could be under center for Team USA, it’d be a bit surprising to see Doucette get an opportunity to be the QB1 on that roster. Perhaps Team USA flag football will show him some loyalty and put him on the roster, but how would they not start Jackson or Mahomes?
Doucette has been outspoken about this potential issue, and Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce responded to it.
He said that he sounds afraid of competition, and that Team USA should have a tryout, with the best players making the team from that.
“May the best players play. Is this guy afraid of competition?’ Travis said, per Daily Mail. “Just have a tryout and the best players make the team. He’s just boxing out other people from joining the sport because they haven’t played this specific style of football?”

Kelce later added that he’s been impressed with what Doucette has shown in his highlights, but added how impossible it’d be to catch someone like Jackson, a multi-time MVP Award winner.
“We got some guys that can do some crazy stuff with the ball in their hands man,’ Travis continued. “Watching Darrell’s highlights, even his highlights are f—ing epic. Lamar would be f—, nobody’s catching him. Lamar got stocky. What if we hold like a combine?”
