Tim Tszyu Says Wealthy Spence Looks Down On Him And Will Pay The Price

Tim Tszyu believes Errol Spence Jr.’s success outside the ring may have changed his mindset inside it. Rather than viewing the former unified welterweight champion as a hungry fighter chasing greatness, Tszyu sees someone nearing the end of his career who may no longer have the same motivation after earning millions.

Tszyu, who faces Spence on July 26 in Sydney, Australia, said he senses “a certain arrogance” from the former champion. He suggested that attitude could stem from the fortune Spence has accumulated over the years, adding that he believes his opponent looks down on him heading into the fight.

“I think he’s got a certain arrogance about him. That could be because he made a ton of money and doesn’t really need to be doing this. He really thinks down of myself. But that’s all right. When we get in the ring, I really just want to hurt him,” said Tszyu to Fight Hub TV.

Earlier in the interview, Tszyu expanded on why he believes Errol is approaching the final chapter of his career. He pointed to the financial security Spence has built, questioning whether someone who has earned “tens and 20 millions of dollars” still has the same desire to endure grueling training camps. Tszyu contrasted that with fighters such as Canelo Alvarez, whom he believes are driven more by legacy than money.

The Australian also said he wants to make Spence question himself from the opening bell, hoping to remind him of his one-sided loss to Terence Crawford while proving he is facing a naturally bigger and stronger opponent than many of the welterweights Spence dominated during his championship run.
