Tim Tszyu confirms Errol Spence talks but admits no timeline

Tim Tszyu confirms Errol Spence talks but admits no timeline

Tim Tszyu confirmed the Errol Spence Jr. fight is being discussed, but his own words make it clear it is not close.

“Yeah, possibly. Possibly. The boys are working on it. Of course, logistically it’s a big fight to make. It takes a bit of time to plan and work a lot of things out, as a lot of parties are involved. But yeah, possibly,” said Tszyu to Fight Hub TV about a potential clash against the former unified welterweight champion Spence.

That leaves the fight in a familiar place. It exists as an idea, not a plan. Tim Tszyu is scheduled to face Denis Nurja on April 5, and that fight decides whether the Spence talk continues at all. A loss ends it. A win keeps it alive, but even then, nothing suggests a quick turn toward Errol Spence Jr.

Tszyu did not dismiss the matchup. He said it appeals to him and pointed out there are “a lot of questions” about how Spence would look coming in, given the inactivity. That is the part that gives the fight its value. It is not just a name fight. It is a version of Spence that no one can fully read.

Both fighters are in similar places. Spence (28-1, 22 KOs) is 36 and inactive for three years since the Crawford loss. Tszyu has lost three out of his last five fights since 2024. Neither has looked close to their earlier form, which adds uncertainty to any fight between them.

Even with that, Tszyu, 31, stayed grounded. He said plainly he does not know if the fight is close.

That distance between public talk and actual progress has been a pattern around Spence since his loss. Comeback fights get mentioned, but none move forward.

Tszyu has done his part by confirming the discussions are real. The rest of it still needs to be built, and nothing in his comments suggests it is there yet.
