Tim Bradley says the reason Terence Crawford is moving up to 168 to fight Canelo Alvarez is that he wasn’t given credit for his wins over Errol Spence and Shawn Porter.
Bradley on Crawford’s Motive
Crawford was never going to receive credit for fighting Spence after his car crash. He’d shown that he was a shell of his former self in his fights coming back from his high-speed car crash in 2019.
Porter was old and washed. It was too late to fight Porter by that point, as he’d been exposed against Yordenis Ugas in a fight that he was gifted. It was too late by then for Crawford to be praised by fans for beating those two. He should have moved up to 154, 160, or 168.
Bradley adds that Crawford also chose not to ask for a catchweight or a rehydration clause because he wants any “excuses” after he beats him. Fans who follow the sport see it differently.
Crawford’s Uncredited Wins
“You guys [fans and media] didn’t give him credit for the Spence win. This is the reason why Crawford is going up to 168 pounds,” said Tim Bradley on his channel, putting his own spin on why Terence Crawford is moving up to 168 without a tune-up to fight Canelo Alvarez.
“No catchweight. No rehydration clause because Crawford is a real one. He doesn’t want no excuses after he beats Canelo Alvarez,” said Bradley.
Crawford wasn’t in the position to negotiate a catchweight with Canelo. His management would have been laughed out of the negotiating room if he’d asked for Canelo to agree to a catchweight.
“I don’t want to hear that Canelo was old and washed up when Crawford handles his business on the 13th of September. Give him his flowers, and that’s the reason he’s taking this fight. That’s the reason why he wants this challenge, because of what y’all say about his resume, saying he ain’t fought nobody.
Bud‘s True Intentions
People believe Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) is moving up to super middleweight for the giant payday of $50 million he’s getting. This isn’t about Crawford needing to be validated by fans. It’s the money.
If he wanted credit, he would have moved up and fought David Benavidez or David Morrell in the last year while waiting on Canelo. He didn’t do that. Crawford wasn’t taking any chances, and it’s hard for fans to respect that because it makes it clear that this is just about money for him.
