Tigers go for first sweep since start of August against Rockies on Sunday

The Detroit Tigers secured their second-straight series win on Saturday afternoon with an 11-7 victory over the Colorado Rockies at Comerica Park. Down 7-4 in the bottom of the eighth, the good guys ran off seven straight runs to prevail over their MLB basement-dwelling foes.

On Sunday, the Motor City Kitties look for their first four-game win streak as well as their first sweep since the start of August, when they swept the Athletics in Sacramento followed by a win against the Mariners in Seattle. That glorious stretch seems like forever ago as the 2026 schedule quickly wanes.

Getting the start in the series finale for the Ole English D is right-hander Jackson Jobe, who recovered from an ugly outing against the Guardians in Cleveland last time out. The 24-year-old gave his team five frames of two-run ball on four hits (one home run) and two walks while striking out seven, getting a no-decision in an eventual 3-2 loss in extras.

For the Rockies, fellow righty Gabriel Hughes will make his 11th start of the season in search of his first win. The 25-year-old has been sharp over his last two starts, putting up a 1.86 ERA and 1.96 FIP over 9 2/3 innings of work, allowing three runs (two earned) on eight hits and two walks while striking out 10 and hitting a batter, earning his seventh loss in the process.
