MANCHESTER UNITED fans have been left moaning after a cheeky social media post from Grimsby Town.

The Mariners dumped the six-time League Cup champions out of the tournament last night after a tense penalty shootout.

The League Two side held on after surrendering their two-goal lead to force the tie into a shootout.

And with a little help from a save from Christy Pym and a miss from Bryan Mbeumo, Grimsby pulled off the miracle win.

Fans were thrilled with the victory as they invaded the pitch to celebrate with their heroes.

Other football fans also enjoyed the result, as Everton and Mansfield supporters were filmed celebrating in Liverpool.

The Grimsby social media team also let themselves get carried away on X.

They shared a hilarious picture of a banner with the words “You’ve just been slapped by the fish”.

The caption was joined by a photoshopped fish on top of a black and white striped flag.

The post has been inspired by the viral chicken version that was made by Bradford City fans.

And United fans could only moan as they admitted that they are being “bantered off the face of the Earth.”

One posted: “Yeah fair enough Grimsby, fair enough.”

‘I’m fuming!’ – Grimsby goalkeeper Christy Pym stuns fans after penalty shootout heroics by admitting he’s Man Utd fan

A second wrote: “We deserve that.”

A third commented: “This is just humiliating.”

A fourth said: “Grimsby Town just turned Man United into Man Un-fried.”

Another added: “They are bantering us off the face of the Earth now.”

It was arguably United’s biggest upset since the 1995/96 season when they were beaten by York City.

The Minstermen beat Sir Alex Ferguson’s team, which consisted of the likes of David Beckham, Ryan Giggs and Lee Sharpe.

York romped to a 3-0 win at Old Trafford thanks to two goals from Harvey Barnes’ dad Paul and one from Tony Barras.

Gimsby have been rewarded with another big game in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

They will travel to the iconic Hillsborough Stadium to take on Sheffield Wednesday.
