The British GT star who is running ultramarathons to rounds for charity

British GT driver Jack Mitchell is attempting the extraordinary feat of running an ultramarathon to every home-based round on the 2026 calendar.

The Toro Verde Ginetta GT4 racer is raising money for the BRDC Motor Sport Charity, aiming to raise funds and awareness for its mental health support work.

Mitchell has already completed the first part of the challenge, running 38 miles in a single day from his Oxfordshire home to the Silverstone season opener in April.

The 28-year-old will then start from Silverstone’s BRDC Clubhouse for the remaining rounds in Oulton Park (116 miles), Snetterton (104 miles), Donington Park (62 miles) and Brands Hatch (85 miles), skipping the Spa-Francorchamps race.

“I’ve always said it’s the one thing that’s not really spoken about enough, mental health in motorsport,” Mitchell, who finished fifth in-class at Silverstone, told Autosport.

“Everyone has such busy schedules and they just seem to get on with it. Especially now, not just with F1 and how busy that is, but all the GT teams, it’s all the way through the year from Asian Le Mans at the start of January.

“So it’s a full year programme and I think giving back to that and opening up that support to not just drivers but team members, mechanics, engineers, who aren’t part of the BRDC, is quite special.”

Expanding the help to non-BRDC members in the industry is what Mitchell is eager to do, with funds going directly to finding the support and resources which enable it.

He is completing the challenge with the help of former sportscar star Danny Watts, who won the 2025 BRDC Special Achievement Award for spearheading the club’s mental health support initiative.

“I always wanted to raise money for charity and at the start of the year I wasn’t racing, so it felt like I had time to plan something,” added Mitchell, who is also a driver coach.

“After seeing Danny win the award, the bits fell into place and it seemed like the right charity to help raise money for.

“And I think having this support within motorsport is quite helpful and if someone is going through something and they need the support, just going to your normal therapist, it would be quite hard to understand the ins and outs of the motorsport paddock and how it works.

“That’s why I think what Danny is doing is quite incredible, because he knows the paddock, he’s been there, he’s done it. So, I think having an understanding is very helpful.”

It has certainly been well received within the paddock and despite only creating the donations page in April, Mitchell has already raised close to £4000, with a target of £5k.

“On the day of Silverstone, it doubled from what I’d already raised from 1,500 to over 3,000 so that was pretty crazy,” said the 2018 British GT4 champion.

“So it’s being received very well and it helps me get the runs done and I feel confident we can get to the £5k, but then I’ll have to sneakily jump it up to seven and a half maybe.

“But I’m just very grateful for the donations so far and it’s quite mind blowing how well it’s gone and how everyone’s been taking it. So I’m excited to see how it progresses across the year and see what traction we can get for the charity.”

The reception has been so good, and beyond Mitchell’s wildest expectations, that he’s even planning for people to join him in the remaining runs – which he intends to complete across two to four days.

“I’ve had people messaging me wanting to join on lengths of certain runs, which I’m having to try and sort out further down the line and just figure out what runs I can put, like a 10, 15k segment in for people to come along and join,” concluded Mitchell.

“So there’s a lot to organise, but the reception’s been amazing and I’m just very grateful for everyone who’s messaged and commented and donated so far. It’s all for a good cause and hopefully we can keep this up going forward.”
