Multiple softball players from Texas Tech were injured in an accident at Lake Ransom Canyon on the afternoon of Thursday, Aug. 27, a spokesperson for the Red Raiders confirmed to USA TODAY Sports.
In a statement, the spokesperson did not specify the nature of the injuries, how exactly they were caused or how many players were involved. The players were at the lake as part of a “team event.”
“There were thankfully no critical injuries as a result of the accident,” a Texas Tech spokesperson said. “All injured student-athletes have been treated and are expected to make a full recovery.”
The Ransom Canyon Police Department and the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to USA TODAY Sports’ request for comment.
In a post on X on Friday night — which quoted a story from D1softball.com that said three Red Raiders were injured in a jet ski accident — Texas Tech head coach Gerry Glasco wrote, “Thank you for all the thoughts and prayers! Glad everyone is okay and recovering well!”
Over the past two seasons, Glasco has transformed Texas Tech into one of the perennial powers in softball. The Red Raiders have gone 115-24 over the last two years and in each season have advanced to the finals of the Women’s College World Series in Oklahoma City — losing both times to Texas.

The 2027 Texas Tech team is expected to be a national contender once again as it returns All-Americans in Mia Williams, Taylor Pannell, Jasmyn Burns and Kaitlyn Terry. Glasco also dipped into the transfer portal to bolster the roster with the additions of Jaysoni Beachum of Florida State, Moriah Polar of Purdue, Jayden Heavener of LSU, Kasidi Pickering of Oklahoma, and Utah’s Hailey Maestretti.
Texas Tech will open the 2027 softball season on Feb. 18 at the Shriners Children’s Clearwater Invitational in Clearwater, Florida.
