Sunningdale to host AIG Women’s Open in 2028

Sunningdale to host AIG Women’s Open in 2028

The AIG Women’s Open will be played at Sunningdale Golf Club in 2028, marking the first time in two decades the world’s leading women’s players will compete on the renowned Old Course.

The 52nd edition of the championship will be played at the Berkshire venue from 14-20 August, 2028.

Sunningdale has a long and storied history of hosting the championship, with champions at the venue being some of the greatest names in women’s golf including Karrie Webb (1997), Se Ri Pak (2001), Karen Stupples (2004) and Jiyai Shin (2008).

Mark Darbon, Chief Executive of The R&A, said, “Sunningdale continues a run of world class venues for the AIG Women’s Open. Venue selection is incredibly important to The R&A and AIG as we remain committed to making the AIG Women’s Open one of the world’s leading women’s sports events. With a track record of producing outstanding champions, Sunningdale will provide a fantastic test of golf and we look forward to an exciting AIG Women’s Open in 2028.”

Peter Zaffino, Chairman & CEO of AIG, the championship’s headline sponsor, added: “AIG remains committed to showcasing professional women’s golf at the best venues and we are thrilled that the AIG Women’s Open will be played at Sunningdale in 2028. The Old Course is exceptional and will challenge the elite field of golfers, inspire fans around the world and deliver a memorable Championship experience.”
