The Pittsburgh Steelers’ wide receiver room will look a lot different in 2025. The team pulled off a splash move earlier in the offseason by trading for DK Metcalf from the Seattle Seahawks to be the new No.1 receiver, and they also signed veteran Robert Woods.

While Pittsburgh added a few new faces to the position group, they also moved on from a couple of familiar faces. The Steelers let Van Jefferson walk to the Tennessee Titans in free agency and recently traded away George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys.

With Pickens out the door, Pittsburgh now has a glaring need for a No.2 receiver opposite Metcalf, which is why Steelers Depot’s Alex Kozora urges general manager Omar Khan to trade for Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Alec Pierce.

Pierce has the size and playmaking ability as an outside threat the Steelers are searching for to replace Pickens. Pierce certainly doesn’t win in the same way but he has a similar impact.

Pierce’s future with the Colts is uncertain, as the 2022 second-round pick is entering the final year of his deal and Indianapolis has a crowded pass-catching group, which consists of Michael Pittman Jr., Josh Downs, Adonai Mitchell, 2025 first-round pick tight end Tyler Warren, and, obviously, Pierce.

The Colts could look to trade the young receiver out of Cincinnati to create more opportunities for Mitchell. Additionally, losing Pierce for nothing in free agency next offseason wouldn’t be a logical move, so dealing him now for draft picks would make a ton of sense.

The Steelers should pursue Pierce, as the 25-year-old would be a solid replacement for Pickens and add some more explosiveness to Pittsburgh’s offense. Pierce led the league in yards per reception last year (22.3) and also had 824 receiving yards with seven touchdowns.

Coming off a breakout season, acquiring Pierce in a trade with the Colts could be costly. However, Mike Tomlin’s squad desperately needs another capable pass-catcher to pair with Metcalf and tight end Pat Freiermuth, so the Steelers should look to add the dynamic receiver from Indianapolis.
