The Pittsburgh Steelers’ most likely quarterback for the 2025 NFL season is Aaron Rodgers.

At this point, the free agent and future Hall of Famer seems to be the overwhelming favorite for the position.

But the longer the Rodgers saga drags on without a contract, the more anxious things will get for Steelers fans.

So what if Pittsburgh just took a gigantic trade swing instead?

One of the NFL’s most exciting quarterbacks, Kyler Murray of the Arizona Cardinals, seems to be in trade rumors every offseason.

Nothing has come to fruition yet, and Arizona has invested heavily in its pass catchers in recent years, so Murray certainly doesn’t seem like a priority to move.

But what if Pittsburgh called up with multiple first-round picks to offer in addition to other assets?

Murray would immediately be the best dual-threat QB in Pittsburgh since Kordell Stewart.

He’s pricy, sure, but he’s worth the cost, especially if the alternatives are Mason Rudolph or Will Howard.

It’s less difficult to understand Pittsburgh’s side than it is to see Arizona’s perspective. But at some point, it feels like the Cardinals are supposed to win a big game, and they haven’t really done that yet with Murray.

Given the strength of the 2026 NFL Draft QB class, this would be the year to embrace a tank in hopes of landing a star quarterback for the future.

Pittsburgh doesn’t take years off, so acquiring Murray would both be a chance at another winning season and also an opportunity to grow with a quarterback over the next couple of seasons.

This match likely won’t happen, because Rodgers likely will happen.

But if nothing else, it’s a fun thought. Murray would bring lots of joy to Steelers fans, and the Cardinals might be relieved to pursue a fresh start that doesn’t include consistent QB trade rumors for their star.
