He now seeks to improve upon that performance and continue his path to becoming Zuffa’s first middleweight champion. Bohachuk, as a Ukrainian, fights not only for himself but also to be an inspiration for his countrymen. When he defeated Butaev, he said he fought for his country, and he couldn’t afford to lose. This is the mindset he has going into this fight.
Bohachuk is a pressure fighter who seeks to systematically break down his opponents. With an average output rate of 75.6 punches per round, he’s going to truly test Mosley, who is defensively hittable.
In his last match against Jesus Ramos Jr., he was outlanded 219 to 281, with Ramos landing 46 percent of his total punches and 48 percent of his power punches. If Mosley isn’t defensively sound in this match, he may not survive the full 10-rounds.
Offensively, he can pose a challenge; the 219 punches he landed against Ramos were the most any opponent had landed against Jesus in his professional career (Compubox). Shane has a four-inch reach advantage over Serhii, and he’ll look to box him at distance, utilizing his jab and agility to evade his relentless attack.
Bohachuk and Mosley sparred nearly five years ago, and what Serhii took from those sparring sessions is that Mosley lacks hunger. Stating he’s lived a good life, being raised by his father, former three-division champion Shane Mosley.
As opposed to him, who grew up in Ukraine under different conditions, having to fight for survival. Serhii is going to look to test Shane physically and mentally and will take him into deep waters to see how much he truly wants to win.
As he stated in his previous match, Bohachuk fights not only for himself but for his countrymen, and he wants to win for them.
