Shakur Stevenson renewed his pursuit of a fight with Devin Haney on Friday, using social media to once again call for a 144-pound catchweight bout.
Stevenson has spent months pressing for a 144-pound catchweight instead of meeting Haney at the full welterweight limit. Haney previously indicated he was willing to discuss those terms while negotiations focused on a Stevenson fight.

Shakur’s latest push revives an idea that once looked viable. Haney later agreed to pursue a WBO-ordered bout with Keyshawn Davis, a matchup Bill Haney portrayed as an attempt to remove Devin from the picture before a Stevenson fight could happen. That development pushed talks aside while Haney dealt with his WBO mandatory obligation.
Keyshawn stepping aside changes the conversation. Bill Haney argued throughout those discussions that his son honored his obligations by moving toward the ordered fight instead of chasing other lucrative opportunities. From Team Haney’s perspective, agreeing to 144 pounds was a concession tied to those circumstances rather than a standing offer.

The balance has changed since earlier this summer. Shakur has returned to the same catchweight request, but Haney now has a stronger argument for insisting the fight take place at 147 pounds. Attention now turns to Haney, whose camp has far less incentive to accept the same terms it appeared willing to consider before the Keyshawn Davis negotiations unraveled.
