Shakur Stevenson says fans should stop expecting a fight with Devin Haney after announcing he has ended all discussions surrounding one of boxing’s most talked-about matchups.
The four-division champion, Shakur, blamed the collapse on the Haneys, accusing them of using his name instead of genuinely pursuing the bout.
“I’m too real for fake shit. I allowed these same dudes who played bitch games wit me years ago to amp me up and get me hyped for a fight that’s not even gone happen. This my last time letting these dudes clout chase my name when at heart I just wanted a fight on the terms that was agreed on,” said Shakur on X.
“I won’t be entertaining the circus anymore. Sorry, boxing and boxing fans, but u will never get that fight. Door is closed… no more response from me ever again! #HIM.”
The negotiations shifted after Keyshawn Davis became the WBO mandatory challenger. Shakur publicly urged Haney to vacate the welterweight title rather than defend it, saying he did not want to stand in the way of his friend. At the same time, he continued pushing for the fight to take place at a 144-pound catchweight.
Keyshawn later declined the WBO purse bid after Top Rank secured promotional rights, removing the mandatory obstacle and reviving discussion of a Shakur-Haney fight. Despite renewed public exchanges, no agreement followed.
Tuesday’s post closes the chapter from Stevenson’s perspective. He blamed Team Haney for the fight falling apart, although the negotiations had already changed direction several times. The proposed 144-pound catchweight, Haney’s WBO title and Keyshawn Davis’ brief stint as mandatory challenger each altered the discussion before the matchup ultimately fell through.
