Ryan Garcia Calls Teofimo Lopez Into The Ring

“Teofimo, get that ass up here! Where you at? Unified time, where you at? Where you at, Teofimo?” Ryan yelled in a clip posted by Zuffa Boxing. “You wanna get crazy, we can get crazy. I’ll beat your ass right now!”

The restriction worked both ways. When Ryan tried to reach the side of the ring and continue the confrontation from above, security blocked him as well. The shouting continued across the barrier while the face-off viewers anticipated never happened.

No official has identified who ordered security to keep Teofimo out. That unanswered detail is more interesting than the callout itself.

Neither Ryan nor Teofimo fights under the Zuffa banner. Zuffa promotes Shakur Stevenson and Richardson Hitchins, two welterweights who were also in attendance and would offer the company greater control over Ryan’s next event. Allowing two outsiders to stage a formal face-off on its broadcast would have supplied free advertising for a fight Zuffa may not promote.

That does not prove the company issued the order. Security may have been following a predetermined list of people cleared to enter the ring, or commission officials may have rejected an unscheduled confrontation. Still, the business motive is impossible to ignore.

Ryan chose Teofimo because a fight between the WBC and WBA champions carries immediate value. The personal hostility supplies the sales pitch without requiring months of manufactured insults.

Zuffa happily posted Ryan’s threat because the chaos helped its event. Giving Teofimo access to the ring would have gone further by presenting Ryan-Lopez as the next fight. Someone made sure that did not happen.
